Terms of service

Effective August 19, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Sorted application (my.sortedbooks.app) and website (sortedbooks.app), operated from Ontario, Canada. By creating an account or using Sorted, you agree to them. If you engage us for bookkeeping services (a human doing or reviewing your books), that engagement is covered by its own agreement in addition to these software terms.

What Sorted is

Sorted is bookkeeping software for e-commerce sellers. It retrieves the financial reports you authorize (marketplace settlements, payouts), receives the invoices you provide, prepares accounting entries, and — on your explicit instruction — posts them to your own QuickBooks Online company file.

Your account

• Keep your login credentials to yourself; you're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us immediately at security@sortedbooks.app if you believe it's been compromised.
• Account owners control who has access to their companies and with what role, and are responsible for those grants.
• Provide accurate information — bookkeeping built on wrong inputs produces wrong books.

Authorizations you grant

Connecting a platform (QuickBooks, a marketplace, a store) authorizes Sorted to access that platform's data on your behalf, only for your bookkeeping. You can revoke any authorization at any time, in Sorted or at the platform. Credentials and tokens are stored encrypted as described in our privacy policy.

The human-review principle

Sorted's automation downloads, organizes, and prepares. It never posts to your accounting file by itself: every journal entry or expense reaches your books only from an explicit action by you or someone you've authorized. You are responsible for reviewing entries before approving them.

Not professional advice

The software is a tool, not an accountant. Nothing it produces is accounting, tax, or legal advice. Unless you have a separate service engagement with us, you (and your own advisors) are responsible for the correctness of your books and filings.

Acceptable use

• Only connect accounts and upload documents you're entitled to.
• No attempts to breach, probe, or overload the service, or to access other organizations' data.
• No use of Sorted for unlawful activity.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Sorted reliable, but it's provided "as is," without warranties of uninterrupted availability or error-free operation. We may improve or change features; we won't remove your access to your own data.

Liability

To the maximum extent Ontario law allows: we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim related to the software is limited to the fees you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Leaving

You can stop using Sorted at any time. On request we'll disconnect all authorizations, provide an export of your data, and delete what we hold — subject to the six-year retention Canadian tax rules place on bookkeeping records. We may suspend or end accounts that break these terms.

The fine print

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stands. If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the application and update the date above. Questions: security@sortedbooks.app.
